Swisscom: Centralizing Data Center Energy Management
Project Overview
Swisscom, Switzerland’s leading telecommunications provider, operates a nationwide network of data centers—key drivers of both operational excellence and energy consumption. Previously, each facility managed energy procurement and reporting independently, making it difficult to track costs, optimize usage, and meet ambitious sustainability goals.
To address this, Swisscom centralized its energy procurement and reporting processes, unifying all data centers under a single strategy. The company also invested in building an in-house team of energy management experts, equipped with advanced monitoring tools to analyze and optimize consumption in real time. This transformation enabled Swisscom to negotiate better utility contracts, proactively manage risk, and report transparently on energy costs and efficiency.
As a result, Swisscom achieved industry-leading efficiency ratings, earned the SDEA SILVER Plus label for sustainability, and delivered substantial cost savings—setting a new standard for data center energy management in Switzerland.
